陳家榮醫師的早期繪畫創作,融入了時間性的元素,有意把過去、現在與未來同時表現出來;之後,他一度關注於空間性的概念,試圖把超大的景觀甚至整個宇宙濃縮在單一畫面上。
此外,他對平面繪畫如何表現出連續時空中的動態感也很有興趣---他用水彩畫捕捉在洛克斐洛廣埸溜𣲙的紅衣及藍衣兒童;或用粉彩完成的多幅「初舞」畫作;在巨幅畫作「生命系列」中出現的天馬飛翔場面及雲中遨遊的三個孩童…等,都可看出這種創意和心跡。
由此,我們就不難明白,在「母與子」系列作品中,為什麼母親懷抱中的嬰兒總像是一直在成長變動之中,以及在「喜萊麗」及「黛安娜王妃」的畫像系列中,陳家榮為什麼刻意融合並置了她們不同時期、不同感受的表情。要之,如何將人情世事的變化與宇宙時空的流動,濃縮表現在畫布上,可視為陳家榮藝術創作的核心美學和終極目標,而目前永久懸掛於台大醫院正廳的"生之源"(“Creation“),則是他所留下的豐富繪畫作品中,最具代表性的一個典範!
Dr. Chen put the element of time into his early paintings in order to present the past, current and future simultaneously; After that, he focused on the concept of space, tried to concentrate the super-large landscape and even the whole universe on one picture. Besides, he was interested in how painting present the dynamic sense of continuous time and space - he used watercolors to capture children in red and blue skating at the Rockefeller Plaza, or the painting "first dancing" made by Pastel, and the three children traveling in the sky with the pegasus in the huge painting series "Life Series", which told us his creation and his flow of mind. Thus, it was not difficult to understand why the baby has always been saw as growing and changing, embraced by his mother in the "mother and child" series. In the "Hilary" and "Princess Diana" series, Chen Jiarong was intended to merge their different periods, different feelings of expression. How to concentrated changes in the human world and the movement of the universe and time on the canvas was Chen Jiarong’s aesthetic and ultimate goal. And the work "Health and the source" which has been permanently hanging in the National Taiwan University Hospital, it was the most representative work of him!
