國立臺灣科學教育館成立於民國45年，為全國唯一國立科學教育中心，原館舍位於南海路「南海學園」內，民國92年間搬遷至士林新館現址（士林區士商路189號）。

館內的常設展區包含生命科學、物理、化學、數學與地球科學等豐富的展示內容；更與國內外博物館合作，展出最新的科學展覽；緊張刺激的3D動感電影院與充滿趣味的立體虛擬實境劇場，拓展對應用科學的視野；科學圖書館及設備齊全的科學實驗室，不僅能探究科學的理論基礎，還能透過動手操作來體驗科學；不只如此，每年定期舉辦的全國中小學科學展覽會與臺灣國際科學展覽會、不受時空限制的網路科教館、全國走透透的行動科學館巡迴教育以及生動有趣的科普叢書等，兼顧了各年齡層民眾，期望全民能學科學、玩科學，進而愛上科學！

The National Taiwan Science Education Center （NTSEC） was founded in 1956, for promoting science education as well as providing guidance for elementary and secondary schools of Taiwan. In 2003, the center was relocated and the new facility has floor area of 102,539m2. The center enhances the public understanding of science through exhibition and organizing activities. Exhibits include areas of physics, chemistry, life, earth and environmental sciences. There is also 3D Theatre, Virtual Reality Theatre, science library and 12 laboratories at the Center. The NTSEC hosts the National Primary and High School Science Fair and the Taiwan International Science Fair every year, operates a restraint-free science education website （Internet Science Education Center）, runs a country-wide, Traveling Exhibition, and offers interesting popular science journals and books, meeting the needs of all age groups with the aim of attracting people to learn about science and ultimately… fall in love with it!
