● 藝術家︱Natural Languages (Olaf Hochherz + Wilmer Chan)

Olaf Hochherz

藝術家Olaf Hochherz 以編程的合成器,模擬源自大自然裡各種物種聲音的樣貌/表現,演繹出仿真的動物聲響,這是藝術家在經由自行研發的介面,透過記憶印象中的、不同事物的、發聲物件中連結的聲音去控制聲響的成果,試圖呈現出讓電腦鳴唱,讓機器摹擬動物的表現方式。裝置所創造出的聲音為反饋的鳴叫聲及對周遭環境聲音記憶的結果,是得以經演奏過程中傳遞出演奏者情感的動物—聲音—傳輸工具。

 

Wilmer Chan

藝術家Wilmer Chan 則是將發出洪亮低沈音色的低音大提琴,透過身體張力的表現方式,呈現出樂器尖銳、特異的音質。Wilmer將大提琴功能面向中的旋律性轉向音色純粹質地的表現上,讓創造出的聲音融合於環境氛圍裡。依憑大量不同技法的研究,Wilmer專注於指法的重複與變異性於各個音色所產生的變化,演奏的過程由演奏的動作姿態與物質性的樂器發生連結交譜而出。低音大提琴進而發展成為ㄧ附有生命的工具、有機的裝備。

 

● 藝術家︱The Language Lab(顧柏堅+謝金寶)

香港聲響實驗團隊「語言實驗室」(The Language Lab),為顧柏堅(創辦人 / 吉他手)與謝金寶(技術人員 / 打擊樂手)兩位核心團員所組成。

 

語言實驗室秉持音樂是一種自然的語言,相信除確預先的編排,作品於演奏過程中的有機形構。並發覺到在帶有各別獨特視覺與聽覺樣貌的不同環境中,應相結合高品質錄製的聲響實驗/演出,創造出對表演者與觀眾皆具獨特經驗的演出。語言實驗室透過交織即時再製於不同空間裡、無須言說而行交流的現場聲響實驗/演出 與現場進行的非一貫樂器與音頻設備使用方式所組成的聲音的即興片段,實踐上述的創作理念。 看似獨立而環環相扣的組成、當下即興而成的聲音碎片,創造出超越樂譜與歌詞的即刻、自然生成的對話。語言實驗室所被熟知於其傳統與新式樂器細膩的演繹,兩位藝術家於舞台上彼此互為映襯的演出,展露出其獨特活力、對比鮮明的個人特質。

 

● 藝術家︱Marc Vilanova / 賴奇霞

Marc Vilanova

活躍於不同藝術表現形式,包含電子原聲音樂、自由即興創作、當代曲目演奏以及與舞者的合作演出,薩克斯風演奏家Marc Vilanova的創作聚焦於發掘樂器更多的可能性,持續進行與科技技術及其他藝術相連結,開探新的聲音、技法與表現方式的研究。Vilanova主要感興趣的是開啓新的聲音空間,作為邀請觀眾翱翔於內心世界的旅程。寂靜、輕音樂、靜觀的表演跟微妙纖細的氛圍變化是Vilanova探索的途徑小道。Vilanova的創作包括聲音裝置與影像創作,他的作品曾於歐洲及南美洲各地的藝術節與展覽作展出,也於各國多處的大學進行工作坊與座談的分享。

 

賴奇霞

大學在音樂系念打擊樂,之後轉向新媒體藝術研究所,畢業於澳洲國家大學音樂與藝術學院。旅居澳洲及歐洲多年,致力於聲音創作及演出,曾於柏林、赫爾辛基、荷蘭、瑞典、比利時、日本、葡萄牙、澳洲等各地演出,於2014年獲選受邀至東京實驗節演出、及獲獎助至比利時布魯日藝術駐村創作與發表。除了藝術創作與演出之外,也參與電子聲響及新樂器介面等相關學術活動,論文曾入選發表於國際研討會(ACMC, SMC, NIME, ICMI)。

 

● 藝術家︱林其蔚

台灣聲響藝術的先鋒,並且是90年代以來參與台灣另翼文化的中堅份子。從90年代開始即投入開發聲響實驗,為噪音團體<零與聲音解放組織>中的一員,並結合身體行動、行為表演探索感官、意識的極限,與嘗試開發新的知覺模式。他對於聲音物理與身體反應之間的研究興趣,結合了對生活、社會體制與文化層面的觀察,作品中總能運用二者呈現交互指涉的意涵,林其蔚的創作運用多樣化的媒材,從身體到頻率、文件裝置、影音媒體和實驗影片拍攝,並將這些都視為「生命的雕塑」,他實踐生活就是創作,而創作也就是他的生活。除聲音、裝置等個人創作,還曾主辦過<破爛節>、<後工業藝術祭>、<裂獸之歌>等大型活動

● Artists︱Natural Languages(Olaf Hochherz + Wilmer Chan)
Olaf Hochherz programmed a synthesizer which simulates half-animals. Half-animals are deliberate created occurrences, which resemble notions of nature. The instrument is the result of a research, where he developed an interface to control sounds through their relation to memories, things and sounding machines – a way to let the computer sing, to let machines mime animals. The sounds are a result of the chirping of a feedback and the memory of the sounding of the environment, created by a blurry apparatus. This instrument allows a playing with the affection to things and animals: animal-voice-transmissions.

 

With a double bass that is known to produce sonorous deep tones, Wilmer Chan focuses instead on the brittle, peculiar timbre from his instrument that often requires physical tension to produce. He transforms the functional bass of the rhythm section into a supporter of textures, timbres – producing sounds that blend into the atmosphere. With reference to a wide array of extended techniques, he investigates the gradual transformation between different timbres and sounds through repetitions and variations of gestures. His performance is structured by playing movements that reacts with the materiality of the instrument. The double bass develops into a living machine, an organic apparatus.

 

● Artists︱The Language Lab(Koo Park-kin + Tse Kam-po)
The Language Lab is a well-established sonic experimental team from Hong Kong. Core team members of the Language Lab are Mr. Koo Park-kin (Founder / Guitarist) and Mr. Tse Kam-po (Engineer / Percussionist).

 

The Language Lab believes that music is an inborn language and is convinced that a concert will be formed organically in the process without prior composition. They also perceive that different environments with particular visual and acoustic features should go hand in hand with high quality recordings of sonic experiment / performance to create an unique experience to both the artists and the audience.

 

The Language Lab realizes the above beliefs by interweaving the immediate reenactment of present sonic experiment / performance in varied space in a speechless but communicative manner with live generated impromptu fragment of sounds, composed of the unconventional use of musical instruments and audio equipment. The seemingly independent yet interlocking components, the presence and the instant improvised sound fragments, create a prompt and spontaneous dialogue, which definitely goes beyond any designated scores and lyrics.

 

The Language Lab is known for their refined touches of using traditional and novel instruments. The distinctive dynamics, edgy contrasts and their actual personalities radiated from the two artists complement each other on stage.

 

● Artists︱Marc Vilanova / Chi-Hsia Lai
Marc Vilanova
Active as a performer in many art forms, including electroacoustic music, free improvisation, contemporary repertoire and collaborations with dancers, saxophonist Marc Vilanova’s work is focused on the exploration of the instrument, as well as ongoing research into new sounds, techniques and expressions connected with technology and other arts.His primary interest is to open new sound spaces that invite the audience on an inner voyage. Silence, quiet music, contemplative performance and delicate atmospheres are the paths of his exploration.Vilanova is also interested in sound installations and video works. His projects had been presented in festivals and exhibitions all over Europe and South America and he gave workshops and lectures in the principal universities of the countries he has visited.

 

Chi-Hsia Lai
Chi-Hsia Lai(Lisa)studied percussion at the university, then she changed her major to New Media Art for a masters degree. She graduated from the Australian National University School of Music and Art and had been living in Australia and Europe for many years. She focuses on sound creation and performance and had been performed in Berlin, Helsinki, Holland, Sweden, Belgium, Japan, Portugal and Australia. In 2014, she was selected and invited to perform at the Tokyo Experimental Festival and awarded to an International Artists-In-Residence Program in Brugge, Belgium. Except artistic creation and performance, she also joined Electronic Sound and New Interfaces of Instrument -related academic activities and her papers have been selected and published in the international conferences, such as ACMC, SMC, NIME, ICMI.

 

● Artists︱Lin Chiwei
Lin Chiwei has received training in literature, anthropology and fine art. He creates sound works with the participation of the audience. Lin was the co-founding member of Zero and Sound Liberation Organization (Z.S.L.O.), the first noise group in Taiwan. He also co-organised Taipei Broken Life Festival which marks the highpoint of the local noise movement. Since the late-1990s, Lin has been exploring in the realms of folklore culture, and through his work, integrating sound, ritual and the participation of the audience.
